A Journey of Success

-

Feeling so tired and thirsty, sitting at the middle of the road, staring at the long and winding road, wondering when will it ends. He got to his knees and started stepping again together with his schoolmates, while telling stories not minding the sweats flowing all over his body.

Finally, the bell rings and yes, they arrived school in time. This is the situation every day, five times a week. He gets tired and sick walking more than four kilometers from home to school morning and afternoon. It really is so tiring. There are even times that he makes alibis to his parents just so that they will allow him to get absent from school. Specially during rainy season.

He remembers the time when he was just halfway before school and they were very wet from head to foot, their umbrellas were blown away by the strong winds, his slippers were carried away by the running water in the road that made him cry and thought of returning home.

It’s a good thing siblings are ready to extend help all the time, she lent her extra shirt and helped him change clothes at the kiosk near the school.

At the classroom, while thinking of the answer to his teacher’s question, his attention was caught by one of the quotations posted in the wall saying, “The root of Education is bitter but the fruit is sweet”. He smiled and came to understand how that long and winding road contributes in leading him to reaping a sweet fruit.

Truly, every hard work is benefitted. Sometimes, we need to undergo trials, difficulties or challenges before we get a reward. But these challenges are the key to our success. Like in education, we need to study hard, exert all efforts that we have in order to have high grades. Having a high grade in school is just the beginning to achieving our dreams in life. Carol C.
