Kalayaan trail run set for June 9

THREE running events are slated during the day-long Kalayaan Trail Run Music Festival on June 9, as part of the city’s Independen­ce Day celebratio­n.

Kicking off the running event is the 3-kilometer kiddie fun run/walk, the 5-Km run for more mature runners and the centerpiec­e 10-Mile (16Km) trail run that will course through the forests of Kadaclan, Loakan, Happy Hallow, the Yellow Trail of John Hay.

Scout Barrio, Kadaclan, Loakan and Happy Hallow are all part of the John Hay Reservatio­n.

The Kalayaan Trail Run and Music Festival, according to Eric Coronacion of the P7 Events will benefit patients at the Baguio General Hospital Dialysis Center.

Organizers added the event also aims “to create an iconic annual event in time of the celebratio­n of the Philippine Independen­ce Day.”

The race, according to organizers is designed to give a new experience for all the participan­ts, runners and non-runners alike integratin­g the race to a food and music festival.

Side events during the Kalayaan Trail Run Music Festival include environmen­t protection where re-greening

of trails will be done during the race.

Booths for the food fest will open by 8 a.m. where zumba is also slated for enthusiast­s. A lunch will be hosted for BGH dialysis patients, while at 3 p.m. the gun will be fired for the run that will be concluded with the concert by at least eight local bands.
