Reaction to Soco’s reaction

-

IN his letter to the editor published here last Saturday and Sunday, businessman Glenn Soco, chairman of the Infrastructure and Development Committee of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7, accused me of “inaccuracy” in my column last Wednesday.

Glenn reacted to my column titled, “Soco’s selective stand,” referring to his stand on the proposed Light Rail Transit (LRT) vis-a-vis the other proposals, such as the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), underpass, flyovers and tunnels, aimed to address the worsening traffic problem in the metropolis.

In that column, I said that Mr. Soco showed his biases because he “welcomed” the LRT but immediately “shot down” the other proposed projects with the similar aim of addressing the traffic problem.

Glenn said that my column was completely false because he never uttered such statement and would never discuss the matter or lack thereof of any project that has not been proposed to the RDC. To do so would be to speak without factual basis.

Completely false? I would like to call his attention to a SunStar article written by senior reporter Ely Baquero published last April 18, where he was quoted as saying, “Glenn Soco, chairman of the IDC, said he welcomed the proposed LRT because Cebu needs a mass transport system that will solve its lingering traffic problem.
