MILO BEST Center kicks off May 8
THE country’s hotbed of fundamental basketball clinic sets foot in the Summer Capital anew in its effort of teaching the youth of basic fundamental and scientific basketball.
For several years now, the Milo BEST Center basketball clinic has attracted a huge number of participants wanting to be one of the country’s top players.
Slated May 8 to June 3 and June 18 to 23, clinic time periods will be either from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., depending on which level one is enrolled.
“At the Best Center, players learn the fundamentals of the sport and develop character and values such as discipline, sportsmanship, and camaraderie through their interaction with coaches, instructors and peers,” said Russel Go, Baguio’s Milo Best coordinator.
The training in the clinic is also complemented by the latest state-of-the-art equipment.
The center also has the sport’s best coaches and instructors who are closely handpicked by founder Nic Jorge and his advisers.
The basketball training, which will be from level 1 to 4, is open to the youth aged nine years old and above.
Level 1 is all about ball handling wherein students will learn the fundamentals of dribbling, passing and receiving, and pivoting.
Level 2 is concentrated on shooting, including lay-ups, onehanded set shots, jump shots, off-thebackboard, and free throws.
Moreover, level 3 tackles the fundamentals of defense, like man-to-man defense, defensive rebounding, and positioning.
The BEST Center or Basketball Efficiency & Scientific Training Center founded in 1978 by former national basketball coach, Jorge, and the first of its kind to teach the fundamentals of the sport using scientific and systematized approach.
From its inception up to the present, The BEST Center, continues to be the benchmark of basketball training in the country. In 2002, the Center also started teaching volleyball—another sport that is very popular among Filipino school children.
