DOE brings “E – Power Mo” to N. Luzon

SAFE and efficient use of energy; ensure the delivery of quality, reliable and affordable energy services, and empowering the people and local communitie­s of their capacity to choose or implement proper energy utilizatio­n for their own advantage.

These were the messages of the Department of Energy in the fifth leg of the “E – Power Mo: E – Safety Mo, E – Secure Mo, E – Diskarte Mo,” campaign to North Luzon stakeholde­rs at Hotel Supreme here last week.

The Baguio leg of the campaign with the theme “Communicat

ing Efficiency across the Energy Sector” gathered around 700 participan­ts composed of energy stakeholde­rs, regional line agencies, academic institutio­ns, civil society organizati­ons and local community representa­tives.

Discussed in the plenary sessions included the energy efficiency situation in the country presented by DOE Energy Utilizatio­n Management Bureau OIC Director Jesus Tamang; Machine Learning: Going Beyond the Hype, and Making it Work for Earth Science by Iraya Energies Managing Director Nina Marie Hernandez; Vanadium Flow Battery for Ancilliary, Imbedded Supply and Smart Grid Applicatio­ns by Leo Chiang Lin of SEN TEK Energy Solutions, Inc.; and a sharing of success story on Energy Management System by Continenta­l Temic Electronic Philippine­s Inc. Energy and Facilities Manager Edgar Bondoc.

There were also learning breakout sessions from DOE’s bureaus that handle the energy sectors such as Downstream Oil and Natural Gas; Upstream, Renewable Energy, Power Energy, Alternativ­e Fuels and Energy Efficiency and the Consumer sector.

Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, in his keynote message read by ASEC Robert Uy, outlined that DOE’s E Power Mo is the department’s campaign that aims to impart DOE’s programs and projects to the Filipino energy consumers and the importance of energy efficiency in lowering energy demand, as well as of increasing energy security that translates to improved productivi­ty and energy savings for consumers, and more importantl­y to strengthen the country’s global competitiv­eness through the use of innovative­ly progressiv­e indigenous energy resources.

“Help us share the E - power Mo message in your own little way and make energy efficiency a way of life of Filipinos,” Cusi said.

DOE USEC Felix William Fuentebell­a also shared that as the E – Power Mo campaign has already reached over 3,000 stakeholde­rs, they hope to sustain their commitment to bring the faces and knowledge of DOE sereral vices closer to the people and communitie­s around the country towards the goal of spreading better appreciati­on on the scope and magnitude of the services DOE and generally to make energy efficiency to be a part of the daily life of every Filipino and each community in the country.

Uy, meanwhile, outlined that energy is a crucial commodity and an integral factor towards economic growth and global competitiv­eness. Thus the need to work together and foster stronger partnershi­p to address the energy sectors’ growing concerns.

‘For DOE, we will continue to find ways and innovate measures, along with all the concerned sectors and the public in gen- towards the utilizatio­n of power judiciousl­y, efficientl­y and wisely, Uy added.

The “E–Power Mo” campaign has already been conducted in Metro Manila, Cebu, Davao and Clark. PIA CAR
