Gabu­tan lock­ing sight on WBC Asia crown

FOR DAYER Gabu­tan, hook­ing up with a new trainor won’t be a huge prob­lem when he sets his sight for the va­cant World Box­ing Coun­cil Asian Box­ing Coun­cil Sil­ver su­per fly­weight ti­tle on May 15 in Xi An, China.

Gabu­tan re­cently hooked up with High­land Box­ing trainer FeliX Tañamor to iorn out his game plan against up and com­ing boxer ZongLi He who has won all of his three bouts.

ZongLi mean­while last fought in Jan­uary this year, edg­ing Zheng­gou Luo via unan­i­mous de­ci­sion.

“My ad­van­tage would be my reach and ex­pe­ri­ence,” said the for­mer WBO Ori­en­tal ban­tamweight cham­pion whose box­ing record stands at 20 wins in­clud­ing 11 knock outs, six losses, and three draws.

With a new trainor, Gabu­tan said he is ready to take on the chal­lenge of the 23 – year – old Chi­nese righty as they are set to wrap up their train­ing

this week be­fore head­ing to China later.

Gabu­tan recorded his 20th vic­tory against Roilo Golez in Septem­ber last year with a sec­ond round knock­out.

The 29-year-old Be­sao, Mt. Prov­ince then took time off af­ter his vic­tory last year to con­cen­trate on his stud­ies.

Prior to his huge win in Septem­ber last year, Gabu­tan lost five out of his six fights from 2013 to 2016.

Although Gabu­tan will take on a new comer, he is not tak­ing his op­po­nent lightly hav­ing al­most four times of spar­ring ev­ery week con­sist­ing of four to rounds of spar­ring per ses­sion.

“I have never trained harder in my life and with coach Felix by my side, were’ learn­ing new tech­niques and I hope this would be one of my weapons against Zong Li,” said Gabu­tan.

Although he hasn’t fight since Septem­ber, Gabu­tan said he has re­mained ac­tive train­ing at the High­land Box­ing Gym in La Trinidad, Benguet spar­ring with other fight­ers to stay fit be­fore he and Tanamor hooked up for their train­ing camp which started March.

“I’m look­ing for­ward for this fight be­cause I want to be­come a cham­pion again and with all the things I’ve learned in the gym, I can’t wait to take on ZongLi,” Gabu­tan quipped.
