- Roderick Osis

FOR DAYER Gabutan, hooking up with a new trainor won’t be a huge problem when he sets his sight for the vacant World Boxing Council Asian Boxing Council Silver super flyweight title on May 15 in Xi An, China.

Gabutan recently hooked up with Highland Boxing trainer FeliX Tañamor to iorn out his game plan against up and coming boxer ZongLi He who has won all of his three bouts.

ZongLi meanwhile last fought in January this year, edging Zhenggou Luo via unanimous decision.

“My advantage would be my reach and experience,” said the former WBO Oriental bantamweight champion whose boxing record stands at 20 wins including 11 knock outs, six losses, and three draws.

With a new trainor, Gabutan said he is ready to take on the challenge of the 23 – year – old Chinese righty as they are set to wrap up their training

this week before heading to China later.

Gabutan recorded his 20th victory against Roilo Golez in September last year with a second round knockout.

The 29-year-old Besao, Mt. Province then took time off after his victory last year to concentrate on his studies.

Prior to his huge win in September last year, Gabutan lost five out of his six fights from 2013 to 2016.

Although Gabutan will take on a new comer, he is not taking his opponent lightly having almost four times of sparring every week consisting of four to rounds of sparring per session.

“I have never trained harder in my life and with coach Felix by my side, were’ learning new techniques and I hope this would be one of my weapons against Zong Li,” said Gabutan.

Although he hasn’t fight since September, Gabutan said he has remained active training at the Highland Boxing Gym in La Trinidad, Benguet sparring with other fighters to stay fit before he and Tanamor hooked up for their training camp which started March.

“I’m looking forward for this fight because I want to become a champion again and with all the things I’ve learned in the gym, I can’t wait to take on ZongLi,” Gabutan quipped.
