A BICYCLE Festival to promote and organize sports events to bicycle enthusiasts is being eyed in the capital town of Benguet.

La Trinidad Councilor Guiller Galwan said they are eyeing a Bicycle Festival in the municipality to ease traffic and promote the use non-motorized vehicles such as bicycle as a means of transportation.

“We are doing favor to motorists to lessen traffic with one less car in our roads,” Galwan added said of the pro- posal.

With the proposed ordinance, the town is eyeing big establishments to further designate parking spaces for bicycles, encourage and invite establishments in the municipality selling bicycles and have a venue to showcase different bicycle enthusiasts during the festival.

The lawmaker said other countries have practiced and designated lanes being shared by motorists and bicycles.

Galwan added they will still form the traffic management board for the implementation of the bike lanes zone

markings approved by the council last year to be installed near the right side of the road with a width of less than one meter following flow of traffic.

As the municipality implements carless Thursdays of every month within the municipal building, Municipal Administrator Miller Quintin added they are also inviting Benguet State University to have its car less day.

Following the execuhibitions tive order of the mayor, the local council of La Trinidad has recently passed a resolution urging its constituents to use bicycles.

The carless day urged citizens of the valley not to use their respective motor vehicles, and instead, encouraged to walk, use public transport and alternative non-motorized transport during the carless day on every Thursday of the first week of each month.
