Bocap hopeful jailed

AN ASPIRING candidate for punong barangay in Mankayan, Benguet was jailed for threat, physical injuries and illegal possession of deadly weapon.

Julieto Cleto Fagwan of Barangay Balili in Mankayan was arrested after allegedly inflicting injury to Daniel Simon Batoon, 28, of Central Balili while threatenin­g Renante Nisperos Guyo, 28, during the start of election campaign on May 4.

The suspect was arrested by the residents and turned over to Mankayan Municipal Police Station while confiscate­d from his possession is a knife.

Mankayan chief of police Chief Inspector Orlando Bakisan said they filed a case of alleged threat against Fagwan including physical injuries and violation of P.D. 1811 in relation to Commission on Elections ban.

The suspect is currently jailed at Provincial Jail Camp Dennis Molintas Buguias, Benguet. Bakisan added Comelec Mankayan recommende­d for the withdrawal of Fagwan’s candidacy.

Both Bakisan and Barangay Balili Kagawad John Palking said Fagwan committed the crime after was teased.

Fagwan and 19 barangay kagawads are vying for position in Barangay Balili.

Comelec under resolution no. 10246, announced prohibited acts during the Barangay and Sanggunian­g Kabataan Election 2018 include the alteration of precincts or establishm­ent of a new precinct, carrying of firearms or other deadly weapons, use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates, transfer of officers and employees in the civil service, organizing or maintainin­g reaction forces, strike forces and suspension of any elective local government officer.

As of press time, Sun.Star Baguio tried to reach Fagwan but failed to obtain his statement on the matter.
