Bo­cap hope­ful jailed

AN AS­PIR­ING can­di­date for punong barangay in Mankayan, Benguet was jailed for threat, phys­i­cal in­juries and il­le­gal pos­ses­sion of deadly weapon.

Juli­eto Cleto Fag­wan of Barangay Balili in Mankayan was ar­rested af­ter al­legedly in­flict­ing in­jury to Daniel Si­mon Ba­toon, 28, of Cen­tral Balili while threat­en­ing Renante Nis­peros Guyo, 28, dur­ing the start of elec­tion cam­paign on May 4.

The sus­pect was ar­rested by the res­i­dents and turned over to Mankayan Mu­nic­i­pal Po­lice Sta­tion while con­fis­cated from his pos­ses­sion is a knife.

Mankayan chief of po­lice Chief In­spec­tor Or­lando Bak­isan said they filed a case of al­leged threat against Fag­wan in­clud­ing phys­i­cal in­juries and vi­o­la­tion of P.D. 1811 in re­la­tion to Com­mis­sion on Elec­tions ban.

The sus­pect is cur­rently jailed at Pro­vin­cial Jail Camp Den­nis Molin­tas Buguias, Benguet. Bak­isan added Com­elec Mankayan rec­om­mended for the with­drawal of Fag­wan’s can­di­dacy.

Both Bak­isan and Barangay Balili Ka­gawad John Palk­ing said Fag­wan com­mit­ted the crime af­ter was teased.

Fag­wan and 19 barangay ka­gawads are vy­ing for po­si­tion in Barangay Balili.

Com­elec un­der res­o­lu­tion no. 10246, an­nounced pro­hib­ited acts dur­ing the Barangay and Sang­gu­ni­ang Ka­bataan Elec­tion 2018 in­clude the al­ter­ation of precincts or es­tab­lish­ment of a new precinct, car­ry­ing of firearms or other deadly weapons, use of se­cu­rity per­son­nel or body­guards by can­di­dates, trans­fer of of­fi­cers and em­ploy­ees in the civil ser­vice, or­ga­niz­ing or main­tain­ing re­ac­tion forces, strike forces and sus­pen­sion of any elec­tive lo­cal gov­ern­ment of­fi­cer.

As of press time, Sun.Star Baguio tried to reach Fag­wan but failed to ob­tain his state­ment on the mat­ter.
