350 Abra police personnel undergo drug testing

BANGUED, Abra -- The Abra Police Provincial Office conducted a random drug testing to 350 police personnel as part of the Philippine National Police (PNP) internal cleansing program particular­ly aimed at ferreting out drug-using police officers.

This is in compliance with the directive of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to cleanse the ranks from officers down to the lowest rank as part of the PNP internal cleansing strategy.

Abra Provincial Police Office informatio­n officer Senior Inspector Marcy Grace Marron said more internal cleansing operations like this will restore and uphold the integrity of the organizati­on and public’s trust with the conduct of mandatory drug tests among all personnel and intensifie­d efforts to eradicate illegal drugs as majority of heinous crime in the country are drug-related.

Marron added police officers tested with positive results will undergo a confirmato­ry drug testing at the PNP Headquarte­rs in Camp Crame, Quezon City.

As a matter of policy, those found positive for illegal drug use and involvemen­t in illegal drug syndicates shall be sanctioned accordingl­y.. All police officers who will result positive with the confirmato­ry drug test will be discharged from office after due process.

Marron stressed that the PNP will not tolerate any member of the organizati­on who violates the law and gets involved in illegal drugs.
