Incentive sought for unopposed Bocaps
Maria Elena Catajan Sun*Star Reporter COUNCILOR Leandro Yangot seeks to reward unopposed village chiefs with an incentive of P 25,000.
The ordinance which seeks to grant the onetime cash award plus plaque of recognition for all unopposed punong barangays this coming election.
“Proof of outstanding performance for those punong barangays who have shown exemplary performance in the discharge of their respective functions is their election into office without any opponent,” Yangot said.
There are 17 punong barangays in Baguio City who ran unopposed.
“The success of barangay governance lies with the outstanding performance of its local leaders from the punong barangay down to the appointive barangay officials as well as the barangay volunteers. The punong barangay, being the chief executive of the LGU plays a vital role specially in the decision makings and in ensuring the successful implementation of the various programs, projects and activities in the barangay,” stressed Yangot.
If the ordinance is
approved, all punong barangays candidates will be granted cash award each, plus a plaque of recognition to be awarded during the 2018 Baguio Day celebration.
“Being elected into office without any opponent only proves that Barangay leaders like the Punong Barangays were able to win the trust and confidence of their constituents, therefore, it is but appropriate to give them due recognition in order to further boost their morale and further improve the delivery of service to their respective areas of jurisdiction,” Yangot said.
