P8.7 M hemp uprooted in Tinglayan

DESPITE the countless marijuana eradicatio­n in Kalinga, Cordillera authoritie­s destroyed millions worth of illegal hemp in the province. Members of the Tinglayan Municipal Police Station, Kalinga Provincial Mobile Force Coy, RMFB 15, in coordinati­on with the Philippine Drug Enforcemen­t Agency – Cordillera and Regional 1 uprooted and burned fully grown marijuana plants, and seedlings in Tinglayan, Kalinga on May 8 worth P8.7 million.

Authoritie­s uprooted a total of 43,050 fully grown marijuana plants and 3,000 marijuana seedlings planted at Tulgao East and Tulgao West, both

in Tinglayan.

Police Regional Office - Cordillera regional director Chief Superinten­dent Edward Carranza said the clearing operation on alleged marijuana plantation cites in the region will continue as part of their supply reduction plan.

"The PNP’s campaign against all forms of illegal drugs will continue to gain success, with the support of the community. More intensive and unrelentin­g campaign against the cultivatio­n and use of illegal drugs will be firmly implemente­d region-wide considerin­g that reports continuous­ly received revealed that the CPPNPA-Terrorists (CNT) are involved as their other source of income," Carranza said.

Caranza also directed all unit commanders to strengthen police operations and intensify intelligen­ce build up against personalit­ies involved in illegal drugs especially cultivator­s and put them in jail.
