THE ENVIRONMENTAL Management Bureau (EMB) in the Cordillera region has vowed to tightly monitor Baguio City’s waste transfer station located at the Dairy Farm in Tuba, Benguet.

This after members of the Provincial Board in Benguet endorsed resolution no.16 s. 2018 of Barangay Poblacion

Residents from Upper Poblacion, Tuba earlier filed a petition against the transfer station of garbage waste from Baguio City located at Dontogan, along Marcos Highway.

Engineer Alex Luis, chief of the EMB-CAR Environmental Monitoring and Enforcement Division reiterated an earlier order from regional director Reynaldo Digamo which manifest the continuous monitoring of the agency to the operation of the transfer station to avert any negative environmental effects.

Engineer Ricardo Dang-iw, in - charge of monitoring the transfer station added they recently conducted monitoring on April 13 and May 11 together with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and officials from Tuba together with Baguio City’s acting City General Services Officer Eugene Buyucan waiting for their report.”

Dang-iw added as per feedback last Friday the city waste transfer station will be fully operation within this quarter.

“We conduct monitoring every now and then. To date, the transfer station is partly cemented while the perimeter canal from upstream is finished and there is an ongoing construction and maintenance of the road towards the transfer station,” said Dangiw.

Luis added as per letter of the Department of Agriculture, the waste transfer facility will be operational until April 1, 2019.
