Tight mon­i­tor­ing urged for waste trans­fer fa­cil­ity

THE EN­VI­RON­MEN­TAL Man­age­ment Bureau (EMB) in the Cordillera re­gion has vowed to tightly mon­i­tor Baguio City’s waste trans­fer sta­tion lo­cated at the Dairy Farm in Tuba, Benguet.

This af­ter mem­bers of the Pro­vin­cial Board in Benguet en­dorsed res­o­lu­tion no.16 s. 2018 of Barangay Pobla­cion

Res­i­dents from Up­per Pobla­cion, Tuba ear­lier filed a pe­ti­tion against the trans­fer sta­tion of garbage waste from Baguio City lo­cated at Don­to­gan, along Mar­cos High­way.

En­gi­neer Alex Luis, chief of the EMB-CAR En­vi­ron­men­tal Mon­i­tor­ing and En­force­ment Divi­sion re­it­er­ated an ear­lier or­der from re­gional di­rec­tor Rey­naldo Dig­amo which man­i­fest the con­tin­u­ous mon­i­tor­ing of the agency to the op­er­a­tion of the trans­fer sta­tion to avert any neg­a­tive en­vi­ron­men­tal ef­fects.

En­gi­neer Ri­cardo Dang-iw, in - charge of mon­i­tor­ing the trans­fer sta­tion added they re­cently con­ducted mon­i­tor­ing on April 13 and May 11 to­gether with the Mu­nic­i­pal En­vi­ron­ment and Nat­u­ral Re­sources Of­fice (MENRO) and of­fi­cials from Tuba to­gether with Baguio City’s act­ing City Gen­eral Ser­vices Of­fi­cer Eu­gene Buyu­can wait­ing for their re­port.”

Dang-iw added as per feed­back last Fri­day the city waste trans­fer sta­tion will be fully op­er­a­tion within this quar­ter.

“We con­duct mon­i­tor­ing ev­ery now and then. To date, the trans­fer sta­tion is partly ce­mented while the perime­ter canal from up­stream is fin­ished and there is an on­go­ing con­struc­tion and main­te­nance of the road to­wards the trans­fer sta­tion,” said Dangiw.

Luis added as per let­ter of the Depart­ment of Agri­cul­ture, the waste trans­fer fa­cil­ity will be op­er­a­tional until April 1, 2019.
