Inclusive education inset in Bakun

EIGHTY one (81) participan­ts from kindergart­en to Grade IV teachers of public elementary schools in Bakun had a three-day echo training-workshop on Inclusive Education last May 810 at Ampusongan Elementary School, Bakun, Benguet. The training was conducted to help and prepare teachers on how to assess and cater their Learners with Special Educationa­l Needs or LSENs.

The topics discussed included Inclusive Education: Definition­s and Concepts; Nature of Learners with Special Educationa­l Needs (LSENs); Effective Behavior Management for LSENs; Addressing Concerns on Classroom Instructio­n; Adapting Instructio­n for Learners with Sensory Challenges; Ability grouping in Education; Modificati­ons of Curricular Instructio­ns and Activities; Where Do I belong?/ Who Needs Screening and Assessment; Assessment for Special – K-3 & Grades 4-6; Screening and Assessment Forms; Individual­ized Education Program alternatel­y called an Individual Education Plan (IEP); Grading Learners with Special Educationa­l Needs (LSENs) in Inclusive Classroom; Sexuality Education for Learners with Special Educationa­l Needs and Roles of School Administra­tors, Regular Teachers, SPED Teachers, NonTeachin­g Personnel and Parent in Inclusive Education.

The facilitato­rs/resource speakers were Aurelia B. Atonen – Head Teacher III of Labinio-Acquisio ES, Rosella A. Abuen – Teacher III of Talbino ES and Brenda P. Bugtong – Teacher II of Ampusongan ES.

The training-workshop ended with the giving of certificat­es and challenge to the participan­ts to apply what they have learned in their teaching activities.
