THE ANNUAL ‘Diskwento Caravan’ is set to benefit school children which further boosts public - private partnership in Benguet province.

During the three-day caravan set on June 1 to 3, the caravan will serve as a mid-year balik eskwela sale featuring school supplies hosted by the Benguet State University in La Trinidad.

Tiongsan vice - president Jasper Golangco said the diskwento caravan also help boost small businesses.

“We are looking into the programs to manage the inventory the caravan deals with the customers to help the micro small medium enterprises particularly the small enterprise,” said Golangco.

Golangco added no cigarettes will be sold for the diskwento as it adheres to the municipality’s law on anti-smoking ordinance.

“Tobacco products comprised the huge chunk of sales. We spoke with sari-sari store owners and their sales drop because of the cigarettes,” added Golangco.

BSU President Dr. Feliciano Calora Jr. said as part of the caravan, the state university is also geared on researching and educating consumers preference.

“It will help the university and other entrepreneurs in terms of what

products to stock,” said Calora.

Although there had been no formal partnership with the private firm, Calora said BSU is willing to partner and hope to sustain the diskwento caravan beyond 2018 in La Trinidad to aid in the tourism industry of the valley and decongest traffic in Baguio City.

Department of Trade and Industry- Benguet provincial director Freda Gawisan said the diskwento caravan aims to foster partnership between the private and public sector and provide quality households, grocery and school supplies.

The caravan program is also urging business to directly grant consumer access to reasonablypriced goods and commodities. Through the caravan, manufactures, distributors and selected retailers brought together to sell discounted prices of commodities to consumer.

There will be discount ranging from 10 to 50 percent for students and parents as Gawisan added the caravan will paved for opportunity to share and give back what was generated from the consumers.
