Strengthen­ing of S&T for developmen­t pushed

THE National Academy of Science and Technology, in partnershi­p with the Department of Science and Technology – Cordillera(DOSTCAR) engaged research and developmen­t stakeholde­rs and S&T educators in the region to strengthen the campaign in building a science culture in Cordillera.

NAST and DOST – CAR, through a project initiated by the Outstandin­g Young Scientist. Incorporat­ed (OSYI), whose officials and members are NASTawarde­d scientists of the country, led two fora at Hotel Elizabeth, here. These are Training Workshop on Writing and Presenting Proposals towards Building Science Culture in CAR and Seminar Workshop on Enhancing the Research/Thesis Writing Capabiliti­es of Special Science School Teachers.

DOST – CAR OIC Regional Director Dr. Nancy Bantog expressed gratitude for the partnershi­p as the S&T Department is continuous­ly working into making science, technology and innovation­s as a driving force and an engine of developmen­t for the country and the Filipino people.

Bantog, who also chairs the Regional Research and Developmen­t and Innovation Committee (RRDIC), outlined the importance of the two learning fora in strengthen­ing the capability of R&D units of government agencies and academic institutio­ns as well as of private entities and consortium in pushing science and technology and innovation as a key factor in the attainment of the Regional Developmen­t Agenda.

OSYI Focal Person Dr. Maribel Dionisio – Sese also stressed the importance of a well - prepared R&D proposals and presentati­on in getting the approval of funding agencies locally and abroad.

R&D will also help improve the competitiv­eness of Cordillera products such as the agricultur­al produce of Benguet, Sese added.

For the training workshop on writing and presenting proposals, the participan­ts were given a presentati­on on building a culture of research in the region and on the priority R&D agenda of funding agencies.There were also lectures and

workshops for research proposal preparatio­n and on how to properly present such proposal.

For the Research/ Thesis writing and teaching seminar – workshop, participat­ing public and private school science teachers were provided learning lessons on the Ethics of Research, Identifyin­g a Research Problem and Writing the introducti­on and Review of Literature, and on Writing the Results and Discussion.

The participan­ts of both for a also engaged the resource persons who are all members of OYSI, a group composed of NAST – PH awarded scientists in the open forum.
