Strengthening of S&T for development pushed
THE National Academy of Science and Technology, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology – Cordillera(DOSTCAR) engaged research and development stakeholders and S&T educators in the region to strengthen the campaign in building a science culture in Cordillera.
NAST and DOST – CAR, through a project initiated by the Outstanding Young Scientist. Incorporated (OSYI), whose officials and members are NASTawarded scientists of the country, led two fora at Hotel Elizabeth, here. These are Training Workshop on Writing and Presenting Proposals towards Building Science Culture in CAR and Seminar Workshop on Enhancing the Research/Thesis Writing Capabilities of Special Science School Teachers.
DOST – CAR OIC Regional Director Dr. Nancy Bantog expressed gratitude for the partnership as the S&T Department is continuously working into making science, technology and innovations as a driving force and an engine of development for the country and the Filipino people.
Bantog, who also chairs the Regional Research and Development and Innovation Committee (RRDIC), outlined the importance of the two learning fora in strengthening the capability of R&D units of government agencies and academic institutions as well as of private entities and consortium in pushing science and technology and innovation as a key factor in the attainment of the Regional Development Agenda.
OSYI Focal Person Dr. Maribel Dionisio – Sese also stressed the importance of a well - prepared R&D proposals and presentation in getting the approval of funding agencies locally and abroad.
R&D will also help improve the competitiveness of Cordillera products such as the agricultural produce of Benguet, Sese added.
For the training workshop on writing and presenting proposals, the participants were given a presentation on building a culture of research in the region and on the priority R&D agenda of funding agencies.There were also lectures and
workshops for research proposal preparation and on how to properly present such proposal.
For the Research/ Thesis writing and teaching seminar – workshop, participating public and private school science teachers were provided learning lessons on the Ethics of Research, Identifying a Research Problem and Writing the introduction and Review of Literature, and on Writing the Results and Discussion.
The participants of both for a also engaged the resource persons who are all members of OYSI, a group composed of NAST – PH awarded scientists in the open forum.
