Duterte approves 2nd nat’l high school in Bokod

- Arthur Claudio

ON May 21, 2018, President Rodrigo Duterte signed the Republic Act No. 10996 granting the second national high school in the Municipality of Bokod in Benguet.

The Republic Act is an act separating the Bokod National High School – Daklan Extension in Barangay Daklan from the Bokod National High School.

After fifteen years of operation, the Daklan National High School is legally separated from being an annex of the Bokod National High School which is located at Pito, Bokod, Benguet.

The act also states all assets, liabilities and records of BNHSDaklan Extension will be transferred to and absorbed by the Daklan National High School.

The said school is located within the central part of Barangay Daklan adjacent to the Daklan Elementary School catering to the students coming from Daklan Elementary School, Cammanga-an Elementary School, Nawal Elementary School, Bila Elementary School, Palansa Elementary School, Karao Elementary

School, Ekip Elementary School, Ambangeg Elementary School, Wakal Elementary School, and Alberto Cuilan Elementary School.

The large increase in enrolment last year was due to the phasing out of BSU Laboratory High School at Ambangeg, Daklan.

Some 537 students were enrolled last school year.

The first batch of alumni of the school graduated on March 2006. And on 2017, the

school had successfully produced 56 graduates under the General Academic Strand.

In addition, the newly signed law also mandates the Secretary of the Department of Education to immediately include in the department’s program the operationalization of the Daklan National High School, the initial funding of which will be charged against the current year’s appropriation of Bokod

National High School – Daklan Extension.

Further, the amount necessary for the continued operation of the school will be included in the annual General Appropriations Act.
