A CHICKEN dung trader defied the closure order of the municipality of La Trinidad and destroyed the notice of closure and barricades after the implementation on June 5.

Mayor Romeo Salda, upon learning of the in- cident said they are seeking legal remedies against the operator who defied the order while seeking the help of the local police to monitor the area.

“It was explained to them before the closure order was served, if they insist on having business, we would consult with Attorney

Bartolome Baldas on the case to be possibly filed,” Salda said.

The closure order implemented by the Business Permit and Licensing Office was received by Nora Lagadeo, operator of the chicken dung trading who insisted their operation falls within the territorial jurisdiction of the municipality of Tublay.

Lagadeo said a total of 15 trucks and 30 workers are affected by the closure order.

Jeffrey Maslag, Punong Barangay of Shilan added the operation of chicken dung trading in the area started after the traders transferred from the area of Melecio Orig in the nearby area.

Chicken dung traders has earlier been clamoring for a space in La Trinidad to sell their wares.

However, Salda said the chicken dung trading remains prohibited in the municipality.

A lower court in Benguet has also declared chicken dung trading in the municipality was declared as a public nuisance and was affirmed by the Court of Appeals and that there is yet no clear law governing the act.

According to town officials, the administrative order in 2010 prohibiting the sale, disposal, and storage of chicken dung has not been repealed nor modified.
