AT LEAST 12, 000 Muslim faithful residing in the city are expected to join in the mass prayer and gathering at the Burnham Park to celebrate Eid’l Fitr which marks the end of Ramadan on June 15.

Islam teacher, Imam Bedejim Abdullah, said that traditionally Muslim residents in the city of Baguio gather for the early morning communal prayers followed by the traditional festival of breaking fast among the Muslim community at the Burnham Park open spaces.

Abdullah said that as always, the Ramadan aims to achieve peace and harmony in the country and in the whole world.

“I remind my fellow Muslims to always obey the commands of God so that God’s mercy will descend upon us and to avoid the Prohibitions of The Almighty. Whoever did not leave evil talk and bad action has not achieved anything but hunger and thirst. So says The Messenger of God,” said Abdullah.

He added the longing for peace is for the country as a whole and the need for the Muslim community, “to pray for our leaders, that the One Above will guide them.”

In observance of the Eid’l Fitr, President Rodrigo Duterte signed Proclamation No. 514 declaring June 15, 2018 as a regular holiday throughout the country.

The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos has recommended declaring Friday, June 15, 2018, as a national holiday “in order to bring the religious and cultural significance of Eid’l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness.”
