La Trinidad celebrates foundation day
THE CAPITAL town of Benguet is set to celebrate its 68th founding anniversary on June 14 with the theme “La Trinidad towards greater heights”.
Mayor Romeo Salda said the annual celebration will be highlighted by the 16 pigs to be feasted by the different barangays of the municipality including several activities showcasing cultural presentations.
“With the willingness of 16 barangays, they are going to share one pig each. We will
also have the awarding of Golden Kayabang Awards we have one awardee and nine recipients of special awards,” said Salda.
Benguet native and former recipient of the Kayabang Golden Awards Dr. Ryan Camado Guinaran was chosen as the annual guest speaker of the town’s founding anniversary.
Municipal tourism officer Valred Olsim added this year’s theme suggests a recognition of the contributions of the people towards the advancement of the town.
The Golden Kayabang Awards are bestowed to the town’s outstanding citizens nominated by the barangays of the municipality and screened by the steering committee.
This year’s recipient of the Golden Kayabang was nominated for his outstanding and significant contribution to the research of La Trinidad’s heritage and history.
This year’s roster of awardees includes outstanding institutions, different organizations in the field of education, business, fitness and health, and agriculture which contributed to the development of the town.
Kayabang refers to a basket used for bringing home the agricultural crops slung on the back where indigenous peoples in the Cordillera region.
The Golden Kayabang connotes the fruits of labor of this year’s awards who are bonafide resident and based in the Valley.
