- Roderick Osis

WHILE Apayao’s preparation is now in full swing for the 2019 edition of the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association, the Department of Education in the region is now set to accept proposals for hosting the 2020 meet.

Georaloy Palao-ay, DepEd’s information officer said regional director May Eclar has called on the six provinces and one city in the Cordillera to submit their bid for the 2020 regional meet in a bid to helo the local government units prepare for the largest sports gathering in the region.

“We want to bid out the 2020 CARAA this early so we can help them prepare their venue and at the same ask the winning LGUs possibly installation of a tartan track for their

athletic oval,” said Palao-ay.

Palao-ay added among the requirements is the capability and willingness of the host LGU to shoulder expenses, including construction and renovation of sports facilities, billeting and other infrastructure requirements to meet standards

The DepEd official added peace and order situation must also be conducive for the activity and basic services such as medical, communications even electric and water supply are available.

Eclar earlier said it would be a win-win situation for both the participants and the host province or city if it can determine as early as possible the hosting of the annual sporting event which gathers thousands of athletes and coaches all over the region.

“The would-be host can already put up needed facilities and that schools identified for billeting can likewise make necessary preparations,” Eclar adds.

Palao-ay added awarding the hosting rights to a province or city this early can give the host more time for constructions and other preparations needed.

Interested provinces may submit a letter of intent to DepEd and will be presented to the regional management committee in a meeting.

A technical inspection team will be sent to inspect the proposed billeting schools and available facilities of the bidders.

CARAA is composed of Abra, 2019 host Apayao, Baguio City, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, and Mountain Province.
