COMMENDATIONS are in order for former village chiefs.

Baguio City Vice Mayor Edison Bilog, proponent of the resolution, said it is only right that recognition and commendation be given to show appreciation to the outstanding service the barangay officials has given to their constituents.

The entire city council during its regular session Monday afternoon unanimously agreed to commend outgoing barangay officials for their services.

“Well unang-una, nag serbisyo yung ating mga barangay captains sa ating mga barangay at yung iba talaga ang sisipag at yung iba naging outsanding barangays at nararapat naman sigurong kilalanin nating ang mga efforts na binigay sa ating mga constituents at sa ating barangay,” Bilog said.

The recognition will come in the form of a plaque which will be awarded to former barangay officials.

Councilor Joel Alangsab, committee chair for ethics,

governmental affairs and personnel, stressed the importance of barangay officials saying they are the “foot soldiers” of the city government.

“The barangay officials, as we all know have been the partners of the city officialdom. Kung wala yung mga barangay officials, kokonti lang yung nagagawa naming at pati of course the office of the City Mayor kase parang sila ang ating foot soldiers sa amin kung mayroon kaming ordinansa, most likely the barangay officials and nag i-implement ng ating mga ordinances,” he said.

Alangsab credited officials for the implementation of ordinances in their respective barangays.

“The barangay officials do play a vital role kasi they are the first line of defense ng ating syodad when it comes to, of course protecting the resolutions and ordinances. Sila kasi yung basic political unit of the local government unit kaya nararapat lang na bigyan natin sila ng commendation and appreciation on a job well done,” Alangsab concluded.
