- Ma. Elena Catajan Sun*Star Reporter

BAGUIO City Councilor Francisco Roberto Ortega VI is calling out lax security at Burnham Park.

The alderman said the city security firm, Interlink, has been remiss in its efforts to secure the park pointing to two glaring incidents recently.

“Naka strike two na ang interlink,” said Ortega.

Ortega said the murder of a child in broad daylight last week was a shocking and alarming incident which is enough to terminate the contract of the agency.

Last week an 8 year old boy was found dead at the Old Library Parking Area in Burnham Park who was killed before noon.

Ortega said the incident was alarming as it happened in the daytime and in a public park which is frequented by locals and tourists alike.

City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) head Colleen Lacsamana faced the City Council and said the incident is being investigated by her office.

Ortega however was not satisfied by the explanation and said he will move for the termination of the city’s contract with the security agency.

Interlink holds a contract with the city worth P7.5 million annually to secure the entire Burnham Park as well as City Hall.

Ortega said the contract states negligence from the company can be a basis for termination.

Police investigators arrested Randy Mamalagro Doria of San Carlos, Pangasinan after witnesses claimed the suspect was last seen with the boy in the area.

Authorities recovered a rock believed to have been used by the suspect on the victim. Initial investigation revealed that the boy sustained severe injuries in the head.

Earlier in May this year, a 16 – year – old male plunged to his death at the manmade lake at the heart of Burnham Park.

Two witnesses from a nearby establishment saw the teener running toward the deserted lake and later jump.

Ortega said he will talk with Mayor Mauricio Domogan on the state of security at the park.
