DEVELOPMENTS in the agriculture and fisheries sector are set to be celebrated.

Baguio City Councilor Leonardo Yangot Jr. proposed a resolution pushing for the declaration of July 28 to be the Highly Urbanized City Agriculture and Fishery Council (HUCAFC) Foundation Day.

“It is significant to recognize July 28 of every year as the HUCAFC’s Foundation Day to commemorate the day when it was founded to reflect not only the beginnings of the council but also to celebrate the significant development of the agriculture sector in the City of Baguio,” Yangot explained.

In the resolution, Yangot recognizes since the HUCAFC’s establishment, the council has engaged in volunteer work for the past ten years not only in selfless dedication to serve and support advocacies and principle they believe but also a legitimate way in which citizens from all walks of life can participate in the activities for their community for the protection of their rights and interests and ultimately for the improvement of the quality of their lives.

The resolution explains the council has continuously assisted the Department of Agriculture (DA) in their advocacy work among concerned government agencies, monitoring of agriculture and fishery programs of government agencies, serving as DA’s focal agency in privatepublic partnership in policy development, and serving as consultative or feedback mechanism on policies, plans and programs of the DA.

The resolution is being supported by Section 2 of RA No. 8435 known as the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act which enables those who belong in the agriculture and fisheries to participate in the fruits of development.

The resolution was approved by the City Council during their regular session.
