BAGUIO City Mayor Mauricio Domogan signed a city council resolution expressing the city government’s full support to Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s plan of increasing the salaries of principals and public school teachers in the country.

Resolution No. 206, series of 2018, states that the salary of public school teachers has not been increased for quite sometime to meet the decent cost of living due them as professional public servants and to cope with the skyrocketing prices of basic goods and commodities.

“Public school teachers deserve a salary increase considering their hardships and sacrifices and as a way of recognizing their noble role in educating the youth who are the hope of the moth- erland,” it stressed.

The measure points out like other workers in government, teachers need a salary increase to make ends meet. It claims that teachers spend their own money to provide the lacking necessary school materials in their respective classrooms.

“Some teachers spare food, clothing or even money to their poor or unfortunate pupils or students to encourage them to finish at least their elementary and high school education despite the financial hardships they are experiencing as teachers,” it reveals.

Duterte pledged to increase the salaries of teachers in his speech during an event held in Davao City earlier this year.
