DepEd prohibits electronic gadget use anew
THE DEPARTMENT of Education in the Cordillera Administrative Region have reiterated the call to prohibit electronic gadgets inside the school premises.
DepEd has released a regional memorandum in order to abate the addiction of the use of electronic gadget such as cellphone and tablets which can affect the students in their studies.
DepEd regional director May Eclar added they are currently gathering information regarding the later impact of the implementation of the DepEd memo which was released this month.
"Iyon naman talaga ang gusto nating mangyari, to remove all those distractions sa pag-aaral ng mga bata. Nakakatulong ang internet kung ito'y gagamitin sa tama," Eclar said.
In the regional memorandum, the gadgets being utilized
for students as instruments for note taking used to cheat during examinations are also prohibited.
The reiteration was further based on the previous DECS orders no. 71 s.1999, and 26, s. 2000 Prohibiting Students of Elementary and Secondary Schools from using cellular phones and pagers during class hours as it is observed that cellphones have been proliferated with lewd and obscene picture messages through multi-media services.
Teachers and parents should devise ways to educate students on the responsible usage of the electronic gadgets to the students engaging in misguided acts.
The regional director remains bullish for the schools in the Cordillera to follow the memorandum order.
Parents Teachers Associations, school officials are mandated to tackle the memo during general assemblies, teacher's homeroom meeting.
The order must also be included in the school manuals, child protection policy and student code of conduct.
