Abra creates task force on dengue
BANGUED, Abra -- The Provincial Task Force on Dengue was created in Abra to address and contain the further spread of the Dengue following the declaration of dengue outbreak in five municipalities and alert level in four towns.
Governor Ma. Jocelyn Bernos signed Executive Order No. 008 on July 31, 2018 that took effect immediately after Provincial Disease Surveillance Coordinator Laila Bernal reported the matter during the emergency meeting of municipal health officers with the Provincial Health Office.
The Provincial Task Force on Dengue is chaired by the Governor with Dr. Provincial Health Officer Ma. Cristina V. Cabrera, vicechair and Dr. Anton L. Valera, co-vice chair.
The Governor directed the Task Force to ensure the formation of Task Force Dengue in the municipal and barangay levels throughout the province to implement the 4S.
These task forces are mandated to conduct massive fever surveillance among the people in the barangays suspected to be infected with dengue and to submit their weekly monitoring and surveillance report to the Provincial Task Force through the Provincial Health Office so that immediate and appropriate action is done.
Bernos likewise directed all barangay task forces to enforce the implementation of the "4 O'Clock Habit" or OPLAN TAUB by emptying all cans, bottles, coconut husks, flower vases and other water containers to eliminate possible breeding places for mosquitoes.
Vector-borne diseases such as Dengue, Zika, ken Chikungunya virus could be fatal if the patients are not given immediate appropriate medical treatment and care. But these diseases could be prevented through concerted efforts of the people in the communities in implementing the 4S.
The 4S stands for Search and Destroy, Self-Protection Measures, Seek early consultation, and Say no to indiscriminate fogging.
Affected by Dengue outbreak are the municipalities of Villaviciosa, Dolores, Lagangilang, Peñarrubia ken Pidigan. The four towns under Alert Level are Sallapadan, San Isidro, San Juan ken Tineg.
