Go wants to secure Burnham

Representative Mark Go has sought the backing of Department of Tourism for the declaration of

Burnham Park as a National Heritage Park.

“During the hearing of the DOT budget, Secretary Berna RomuloPuyat expressed full support to our measure of declaring Burnham Park as a National Heritage Park,” Go said.

Go added the main objective here is the over-all and comprehensive planning, development and funding of Burnham Park.

A bill has been filed in Congress to declare the Burnham into a heritage park as he stressed the Philippine Constitution mandates the state to conserve, develop, promote and popularize the nations historical and cultural heritage resources, as well as artistic creations.

Go clarified there is no declaration from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines [NHCP] that Burnham Park is a National Heritage Site.

It was in 2015 when the NHCP wrote to the Baguio Heritage Foundation Incorporated [BHFI] and the city government announcing the approval of recognition of Burnham Park’s historical significance.

Go said Burnham is one of the most famous parks situated at the very heart of the city. Amidst the city’s many twisting roads and rolling hills, Burnham Park is distinct for its geometrically and symmetrically designed stretch of levelled ground.

Named after city planner and American architect Daniel Burnham, who designed it in 1904,the park has served many generations of families, both residents and tourists.

“This measure is an initiative to have Burnham Park declared as a National Heritage Park. Under the measure, the DOT and TIEZA in coordination with the NHCP and the City Government of Baguio will take the responsibility of conserving, rehabilitating and developing Burnham Park,” Go quipped.
