BONTOC, Mountain Province -- The Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) in the province is accepting applications for the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Science and Technology (S & T) Undergraduate Scholarship for Grade 12 graduating students until August 31.

The S&T undergraduate scholarship is open to all Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) graduating students and to the upper five percent of the non-STEM strand graduating class.

There are two types of scholarships under this S&T Undergraduate Scholarships: the Republic Act No. 7687, also known as the “Science and Technology Scholarship Act of 1994” which provides scholarship to talented and deserving students whose families’ socioeconomic status do not exceed the set cut-off values of certain indicators. Qualifiers under this scholarship must pursue priority fields of study in the basic sciences, engineering, other applied sciences, and science and mathematics teaching.

The other scholarship is the DOST-SEI Merit Scholarship Program formerly known as the NSDB or NSTA scholarship under RA No. 2067 which is awarded to students with high aptitude in science and mathematics and are willing to pursue careers in the fields of science and technology.

Under this scholarship program, several courses are added to the usual list of priority courses offered by DOST-SEI.

The scholarship examination will be on October 21. The examination is designed to measure abilities that determine academic and professional success in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The test includes logical reasoning, English, mathematics, mechanical-technical and a self-inventory part.

Moreover, the Philippine Science High School (PSHS) is also accepting applicants

for the 2018 National Competitive Examination (NCE) until September 14, 2018. Tentative date of the entrance examination is on October 20. Application forms may be filed also at the Provincial Science and Technology Center.

Commonly known as Pisay, the PSHS conducts the NCE as the first step to become a scholar in the best science high school in the country.
