Mayoyao athletes shine in IP games
LAGAWE, Ifugao -Cluster 4 (Aguinaldo/ Mayoyao and Cluster 1 (Asipulo/Tinoc) shared the limelight after two days in the Indigenous Peoples Games presented by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at the Lagawe Plaza.
IP bets from the towns of Aguinaldo and Mayoyao captured two golds in boys volleyball and dopap di baboy (pig catching) and two silvers in pating race and bawwot to take the lead in the three-day competition.
Aguinaldo is a second class municipality, while Mayoyao is a fourth-class municipality which earned prominence with the “Battle of Mayoyao Ridge” during World War II.
Asipulo/Tinoc entries also bagged two golds in traditional Igorot sports of munbayu and munparti ya munlagim and one silver in ka-iw race.
Host Lagawe had one gold and two bronzes.
The other winners were Cluster 2 (Hungduan/Kiangan), which bagged one gold and two silvers; Cluster 3 (Alfonso Lista / Lamut), which earned one gold, two silvers, and one bronze; and Cluster 5 (Banaue/ Hingyon), which took three bronze.
On Tuesday, PSC Commissioner Charley Raymond Maxey lauded the more 400 participants from 11 local government units in Ifugao for taking part in the event aimed at preserving traditional games of the Indigenous People.
The Ifugao IP Games serve as the third installment of the country-wide IP Games.
The first two legs of the IP Games were held in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato and Davao del Norte.
