109th Baguio day highlights culture of creativity

THE 109TH Charter Day Anniversar­y celebratio­n of Baguio City this September will focus on culture of creativity in cognizance of the City’s designatio­n as a Creative City in the field of Crafts and Folk Art by the United Nations Educationa­l, Scientific and Cultural Organizati­on (UNESCO).

Mayor Mauricio Domogan said this year’s chosen theme, “Celebratin­g and Moving Beyond 109 through Culture of Creativity” is timely to highlight the City’s latest feat as the first Philippine city to make it to the prestigiou­s creative circle.

Councilor Elmer Datuin who heads the preparatio­ns with City Administra­tor Carlos Canilao said various activities are being prepared for the whole month of September for the celebratio­n.

Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commission­er Caesar Dulay, a Baguio boy, will be the guest speaker in the traditiona­l program Sept. 1 at the Baguio City National High School gymnasium.

The program will be highlighte­d by the awarding of the top 10 outstandin­g citizens chosen by the Society of Outstandin­g Citizens of Baguio (SOCOB) whose names will be announced by the mayor on August 30.

A colorful parade to feature tableau presentati­ons to showcase the city’s evolution will be staged after the program.

Traditiona­l activities include the Miss, Mr. and Little Miss Baguio pageants, the Baguio Day health fair and job fair, concerts, cultural shows and various sports events.

Datuin said a fiveday arts and crafts fair is being prepared to feature the arts and crafts products of small and medium arts enterprise­s possibly at the Malcolm Square.
