184 pets undergo free vaccination
A TOTAL of 184 dogs and cats were attended to by the Baguio City Veterinary Office (CVO) under during its free castration, deworming and antirabies vaccination held August 15 and 16, at Slaughterhouse Compound, Sto. Nino barangay.
Veterinarian I Dr. Maryjane Lauz said 40 of the pets were dewormed while 84
were spayed or castrated and 60 were vaccinated against rabies.
Lauz said the CVO will conduct another free castration, deworming and anti-rabies vaccination on September 5 and 6 at their office from 8 am to 5 pm.
The CVO official explained the rabies vaccination is open to all local residents with dogs and cats, those who will have their pets castrated and dewormed are only for those who have already pre-registered.
City Veterinarian Dr. Brigit Piok Piok revealed her office has vaccinated more than 31,000 pets and impounded over 1,500 stray dogs in the Summer Capital from January 1 to July 31 this year.
She said the vaccination and impounding of animals aims to prevent the spread of the deadly rabies virus to man and other animals.
Piok pointed out that there are still many stray dogs in the streets that is why her office intends to control the Summer Capital’s dog and cat population.
The city veterinarian revealed the CVO has neutered 167 dogs and cats for the period and will be conducting castration of dogs and cats every quarter.
