House oks increase of service incentive leave

THE HOUSE of Representatives, voting 203-0, approved on third and final reading the proposed measure increasing the Service Incentive Leave (SIL) of employees.

House Bill 6770, authored by Baguio City Congressman Mark Go, provided for a 10-day service incentive leave from the existing 5 days that is mandated by law.

“We thank our colleagues in the lower house for passing this important bill. This is indeed a manifestation that we are putting premium to the welfare of our employees,” Go expressed.

The proposed amendment provides that every employee who has rendered at least one year of service shall be entitled to a yearly incentive leave of 10 days.

According to the solon, once this is enacted into law, there will be a mandatory 10-day service incentive leave but employ-

ers who are giving sick or vacation paid leave of at least 10 days shall be deemed compliant with the mandatory granting of service incentive leave.

“With this additional 5-day service incentive leave, employees will now have added quality time to spend with their families. This would also boost our employee’s morale and satisfaction which are manifested in their increased productivity,” the solon said.

“Furthermore, employees’ risk of health and safety issues will be minimized which may even be costlier for both employees and employers in the long run,” he added.

The bill will now be transmitted to the Senate for its consideration and approval.

“We hope that our Senate counterparts will pass this measure before the year ends,” Go said.
