Kapangan CNHS celebrates foundation day

- Chalina G. Palangyo

THERE are thousands of inspirational stories waiting to be told about young women who yearn for a great education. They are stories of struggle and stories of success, and they will inspire others to take action and work to change lives. (Soledad O’ Brien)

A secondary school was born at Central, Kapangan, Benguet on June 7, 1998 as extension of Kapangan National High School. It was successfully built through the collaborative efforts of the people and the leaders of the community. Republic Act 8839, established the school as Kapangan Central National High School, becoming a separate school on August 22, 2000. August 22 is the school’s foundation day which is annually commemorated.

The situation then was not that easy. The classroom being used was a makeshift, construction of few permanent buildings and levelling of the school site were on going. Some serious disputes and some disrupting incidences were experienced. The teachers were not permanent, some were paid by the municipal and Local Government Unit, while some were paid by the Parent Teachers Association. Great sacrifices were done to cope with the situations. But then, these difficulties did not hinder the progress of the school. There were no complains heard from the students and parents. They show eagerness to learn and they display effort to help in any way they can. Parents, community and government officials were very active to provide needed supports – financial, moral, and spiritual. Happiness was evident on the face of the teachers. Learning and teaching went on smoothly. This proves that nothing is impossible if there is unity and oneness of the people.

March 26, 2002, when the school had its first commencement exercises, the time when 84 young men and women reaped the fruit of their sacrifices. They beamed with pride as they were confirmed pioneer graduates.

Time went on, development was unstoppable. Lot of changes happened. Construction of school building continued, number of students increased, faculty and staff grew bigger. Students, teachers and school heads come and go. Changes in curriculum is being introduced. Number of graduates is undeniably increasing. Many of the alumni are successful in their life, becoming competitive globally.

To show their gratefulness for this institution as they consider this as their grass root for success. Many graduates come back to give donations/assistance in cash and in kind. School clinic with complete materials that is currently used was a project of the pioneer alumni. The shaded pathway and armory near the school canteen was funded by the second batch alumni. Stakeholders and others who in one way or another helped the school never cease to extend their support.

The existence of the school is then a weapon for development and progress not only for the barangay, municipality but for the whole nation.
