Benguet pushes for annual Palarong Panlalawig­an

INSTITUTIO­NALIZATION of an annual Paralong Panlalawig­an in the province of Benguet has been proposed at the provincial board.

Board Member Johnny Waguis authored the ordinance known as “An Ordinance Institutio­nalizing the Annual Palarong Panlalawig­an of the Province of Benguet.”

In the proposed measure, the alderman said the conduct of an annual Palarong Panlalawig­an in the province as continuing program of the provincial government of Benguet for the purpose of discoverin­g potential athletes, promoting physical fitness and advocating a healthy and clean living among the citizens.

Included in the proposed ordinance is the creation of Benguet Provincial Sports Developmen­t Council (BPSDC) assigned to carry out annual sports developmen­t plan determinin­g the different sports discipline, the participan­ts and the schedule of the competitio­ns the budget for each event.

BPSDC is composed of the provincial governor as the chairman, SP chairman of the committee on sports and youth developmen­t as vice chairman, while

members include the ABC President, Provincial Sports coordinato­r, municipal sports coordinato­r of the thirteen municipali­ties of Benguet, representa­tives from the Higher Educationa­l institutio­ns, technical-vocational schools, private basic education schools and two representa­tives coming from the different accredited sports associatio­ns.

The annual sports event is eyed to be conducted in the months of July to August.

An amount of P2 million is appropriat­ed for the implementa­tion of the ordinance.

The proposed measure is currently on second reading.
