Having Keila

- Mary Payad Grace D.

HAVING a baby girl is one of the biggest joys of my life. It gives excitement. It is one that is beyond words. Having a daughter taught me on how to be softer. I learned myself that having a lassie would automatically turn me to be more feminine which nobody told me before. The love and joy of having little lass cannot be matched with anything else. She teaches me about the joys of childhood and the beauty of motherhood. The hugs and her smiles always remind me all that are beautiful and pure in the world.

It makes me very happy to wake up with this little fella in the bed every mornings of Saturday, Sunday, and holidays. We wrestle, play, and make laughter together. Her laughter is the perfect soundtrack to start each day. Having her is a very exciting, challenging, and rewarding experience because from her delicate heart that she fills my world with joy and love in simple but meaningful ways. She adds severe and delightful stroke to the house and as most people say that children are instruments on turning the house into a real home.

I agree that having a daughter is a miracle drug. As Debasish Mridha said, “The best music I have ever heard is the sound of my daughter’s giggling.” Very true that the act of cuddling and kissing her releases a love hormone that helps bonding. When I am out at work, I often think about her and how much I adore her and miss her. Hormones like these make me more trusting and give me a natural high that makes me feel a little bit love crazy! It reminds me of Lisa Shepherd’s quote that in raising children, I have lost my mind but found my soul.

Having a baby girl, I have the chance to shop for the cutest things in the world from baby clothes to skirts to cute decorated shorts to all those adorable tiny dresses. Buying hair accessories is also one of the cutest things to do because they personify cuteness on my little miss.

Above all, having Keila is the greatest gift. May I complete this with the prayer of Marian Wright Edelman which serves also as my prayer, “I thank You for the gift of this child to raise, this life to share, this mind to help mold , this body to nurture, and this spirit to enrich. Let me never betray this child’s trust, dampen this child’s hope, or discourage this child’s dreams. Help me dear God to help this precious child become all you mean her to be. Let your grace and love fall on him like gentle breezes and give him inner strength and peace and patience for the journey ahead.”
