Muscle relaxant: An innovative utilization of recovered materials

- Atinan Santa B.

ONE of the common remedy for relieving muscle pain is massage therapy done by the gifted individuals. However it is time consuming, the therapist gets tired and the patient needs something to give in return to the service received. To lessen time and effort of both the therapist and the patient, the study was conducted on the use of a recycled waste material as a muscle relaxant (therapy).

The primary objective of this study is to determine the efficiency of the muscle relaxant to give comfort, relieve muscle pain brought by stress and tiredness.

The muscle relaxant is made up of a motor, (6) volts battery, a tin can, a cap of a bottle and a rectangular shape wood measuring (5) inches long, (20) inches wide and ½ inch high nailed on it, upright, a curved wood, protractor-like with (2) two inches high, ½ inch wide and (5) inches long. The carved wood is holed just above the center for an easy connection of wires. The tin can is cut horizontally and is placed on the standing curved wood through the rectangular wood where the motor is located for protection as cover. Inside the motor are two (2) magnets indicated by (N) north and (S) south to make the object placed inside the motor spin when connected to the battery. An electrical wire is attached from the motor to the battery. The object that turns inside the motor has a metal where the cap of a bottle is placed. The cap is holed beside the center and is positioned on the metal of the motor for when the motor rotates, the cap will also revolve and cause the vibration of the piece of carved wood that gives comfort as placed on the body parts.

The computed t value of 18.5334 is more than the tabulated t value @ .05 level of significance, degree of freedom (df) of 18 which is 2.101. Therefore, the invented gadget significantly contributes in improving the number of hours of sleep. It is useful, environmental-friendly, and reduces solid wastes.

Results of experiment showed that this muscle relaxant gadget relieves pain, gives comfort, and relaxes muscle. This is now being reproduced and uses may have reasonable pay reducing the use of commercially prepared muscle relaxant (drugs) and other therapy.
