4 far-flung schools in Kalinga get DOST STARBOOKS sets

- PIA - CAR

CITY OF TABUK, Kalinga -- Four farflung schools in the province will now have access to science and technology information after receiving Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosk Station (STARBOOKS) sets.

Sheila Marie Claver, representing Department of Science and Technology (DOST)CAR Regional Director Nancy Bantog, led the ceremonial turn-over of the STARBOOKS during the 2018 Science for the People (SFTP) Caravan here.

The four recipient schools are Balbalan Central School, Balbalan Agro-Industrial High School, Pasil Central School and Pasil National High School.

Thirty one schools in the province were installed STARBOOKS software during the caravan.

STARBOOKS is a digital science and mathematics library distributed free by DOST as educational material for teachers and students. This is part of the department’s program to develop ‘science and technology culture’ among Filipino students especially those in remote areas who have limited access to libraries, Claver said.

Information on the STARBOOKS is accessible even without internet connectivity, which is ideal in these places.

In this year’s caravan, DOST will deploy 42 STARBOOKS sets in various schools throughout the region with 19 to be provided with solar panels as these schools have no regular power supply.

Since the launching of the program in 2011,

DOST-CAR had deployed 144 STARBOOKS sets in different schools in the region.

Claver urged even private institutions and individuals to avail of the software with a memorandum of agreement with DOST.
