Liquor ban during calamities sought

-

BAGUIO City Councilor and Committee on Public Protection and Safety, Peace and Or der Chairman Francisco Roberto Ortega VI has filed a resolution prohibiting liquor consumption and sale in the City of Baguio during the occurrence of typhoons to ensure the safety and security of the public.

In the said resolution, Ortega stated that throughout the year, disasters like flood and landslides brought about by typhoons strike the city, and that the City Government has been taking preventive measures and developing plans to lessen the impact of disasters on vulnerable population.

He stated that it has been observed that despite the numerous actions taken by the city, the negative response of the public hinders the attainment of the goal to reduce the severity of the effects of disasters.

Ortega quantified that in order for the disaster plans to be effective, it is essential that the public understand their roles and responsibilities and to take part in the implementation of the plan, further citing that during emergency situations, they must stay alert and vigilant since alcohol intoxication clouds the reasoning and limits the physical capability of individuals thereby putting them more at risk to potential danger.

Meanwhile, the City Council through the Committee on Employment, Livelihood and Cooperatives, and Persons with Disabilities has scheduled a Labor Summit on October 04, 2018, Thursday from 1PM to 5PM at the Multipurpose Hall, Baguio City Hall. The said summit will assemble the labor force in the city in one venue in order to hear and collate their issues and concerns and to gather inputs and suggestions that may guide the City Council to come up with legislation that will promote and protect the rights of labor as mandated by law.
