IN OBSERVANCE of the “Filipino Elderly Month” in the City of Baguio, the Senior Citi zens Officials-For-A-Day (SCOFAD) acting as Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) members has passed 33 measures during their one day stint at the legislative branch of the city.

Most of the said measures focused on the welfare of the senior citizens although there were also some which deal with current problems facing the city. One of which is the resolution filed by SCOFAD Councilor Patricio Evangelista which seeks to request the SP to enact an ordinance regulating vehicles delivering goods, merchandise and of any sort along the main thoroughfares within the Central Business District during rush hours (6AM9AM) and (4PM-&PM) to somehow ease traffic congestion in the area.

SCOFAD Councilor Felicidad Piquero on the other hand filed an ordinance for the installation of trash bins in parks and in areas frequented by tourists, tasking the General Services Office (GSO) to assign additional personnel to monitor and maintain the cleanliness of the said areas, appropriating the amount of One Million Pesos (PhP 1,000,000.00) for the purpose.

Meanwhile in the effort to prevent flooding, a resolution filed by SCOFAD Councilor Elsie Godoy was also approved which urges the City Engineering Office (CEO) City Buildings and Architectures Office (CBAO), City Health Services Office (CHSO) and the City Environment and Parks Management Office (CEPMO) to conduct regular inspection and declogging of the city’s sewerage, drainage and canals.

The said measures approved by the SCOFAD councilors however are not yet final since it still needs to be adopted by the committee under the regular city council and has to pass the usual procedures before becoming a law.
