Gerry eyes Juarez for nephew

-

AFTER a quick and easy victory by Dave Peñalosa last Sunday, world championturnedboxing promoter Gerry Peñalosa wants to give his nephew a big fight next.

Gerry wants to bring former world title contender Cesar Juarez here in Cebu City in February as Dave’s next opponent.

“I will give an offer to Juarez next week. It will be Dave vs. Juarez in Cebu in February,” Gerry told SunStar Cebu.

Peñalosa scored a second-round knockout of Tanzanian Twalib Tuwa last Sunday in an event promoted by Gerry Pens Promotions.

The 26-year-old son of two-division world champion Dodie Boy Peñalosa Sr. dropped Tuwa with a right to the head in the opening round and finished him off with a left hook to the body in the following round.

“He was very impressive,” said Gerry of Dave’s performance.

The 27-year-old Juarez, however, is on a different level and should pose as a huge threat to Dave’s unbeaten record.

Juarez handed Albert Pagara his first defeat with an eighth-round knockout in 2016.

After a fifth-round stoppage loss in an interim World Boxing Organization (WBO) super bantamweight fight with Isaac Dogboe, Juarez has won three fights in a row. Juarez is ranked No. 5 in the World Boxing Association (WBA), No. 6 in the International Boxing Federation (IBF), No. 8 in the WBO and No. 11 in the World Boxing Council (WBC).
