Body of brgy secretary recovered

AFTER 52 days, the body of barangay secretary Luvina Julian Kidkid who was buried by huge landslide in Barangay Bedbed, Mankayan in Benguet was found October 4.

Mankayan Police Station P03 Dexter Ramirez said the body of Kidkid was found at around 9:50 a.m intact and buried with

sticks and mud within the 400 meter wide, 800 meter deep landslide.

Earlier investigat­ion revealed the barangay official was conducting clean-up operations at the footpath when the landslide occurred.

The landslide, believed to have been caused by the continuous rains brought by Habagat occurred at around 1 p.m. of August 13.

Rescuers from the different local government units, barangay officials, volunteers and private organizati­ons worked during the search, rescue and retrieval operations.

On September 7, the local government turned over the retrieval operations to the barangay level.

Ramirez added the retrieval continued with 10-14 relatives of Kidkid searching.

Barangay Bedbed Captain Dalion Baygan said on Thursday, a Kankana-ey ritual called "daw-es" a cleansing ceremony offering a dog was conducted.

Kidkid’s burial will be set today (Friday) at Sitio Tudey. Barangay officials will convene in lieu of commending the five year service of the barangay secretary.

In Bedbed, Baygan added 300 households are affected with several sitios remain isolated following the closure of roads going to the villages.
