Safe roads assured for UNDAS
THE DEPARTMENT of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-CAR) in the Cordillera region activated its yearly program “Lakbay Alalay for Undas” to ensure the smooth travel of motorists for both foreign and domestic tourists during the long weekend.
Tiburcio Canlas, DPWH-CAR regional director instructed the chief of the maintenance division and the district engineers in the region to activate their composite teams to provide prompt and reliable assistance from October 31 to November 4, ensuring all roads and bridges are monitored and well-maintained for the safety of the motorists and transport of goods unhampered especially roads leading to both public and private cemeteries.
This is in compliance with the directive of Secretary Mark Villar and in line with the department’s thrust to keep all roads and bridges safe for the travelling public. The program ensures proper signages and warning signs on all on-going construction projects are properly provided. Easy to read informational and directional signs installed at conspicuous locations along national roads are well-maintained. Roads especially those leading to private and public cemeteries shall be free of potholes with reflectorized pavement markings to guide night driving motorists. Locational Reference Posts (LRP) or kilometer posts should bear clear details/information. Traffic Advisory for alternate routes, by-pass traffic congested areas and road sections with on-going construction activities shall be installed with signs specifying thereon entry and exit points. Field personnel are assigned on round-the-clock shift to provide assistance during normal or emergency situations. Routine Maintenance Activities are already being conducted prior to the influx of tourists.
The Lakbay Alalay Program is in coordination with the Philippine National Police, local government units, non - government organizations and the Land Transportation Office at the district level in their respective provinces putting in place an integrated traffic system/scheme that will further assure the continuous flow of traffic.
Further, Kennon
Road is still closed to traffic with motorists going up to Baguio City being advised to take the Marcos Highway route. Be further advised that Dungon Bridge at Sison, Pangasinan, serving as an alternate route to Kennon Road is also close to traffic. Please heed traffic advisories.
