United Nations Day 2018: World development information day!

- 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) a.k.a. Global Goals:

(October 24, 2018 Wednesday)

OUBLE significance!

United Nations Day is also World DevelopDment

Information Day!

“In 1972, the General Assembly instituted World Development Information Day to draw the attention of world public opinion to development problems and the need to strengthen international cooperation to solve them.

The Assembly decided that the date for the Day should coincide in principle with United Nations Day, 24 October, which was also the date of the adoption, in 1970, of the International Development Strategy for the Second United Nations Development Decade.

The Assembly felt that improving the dissemination of information and the mobilization of public opinion, particularly among young people, would lead to greater awareness of the problems of development, thus, promoting efforts in the sphere of international cooperation for development.”

*** Personal note: Here’s checking on how I can take further action for the Global Goals – closer to home – at ground level.

These “17 sustainable development goals (SDGs) to transform our world” do figure prominently in my personal goals – and reaching-out goals.

I served with the United Nations in Afghanistan and Iraq from mid-2009 until recently (and hopefully to resume before final retirement age of 65, inshallah) – my take on international community service – and international public service – and international journalism, as well – in my role as public information officer.

Before and in between my UN sojourn – in my daily life – inside and outside of the UN – I regularly do personal community service.

But the Bible says that the right hand should not know what the left hand does – and so we just keep it in our hearts – our helping out and alleviating pains and sorrows.

Sometimes, though, we just have to share – to inform and urge Good Samaritans out there who are inclined to support causes – especially “impossible cases and desperate causes.”
