Extension junked for Red Lion

- Jonathan Llanes

THE LOCAL government of Baguio denied any extension by Red Lion to operate while in the process of winding up its operation.

This after the owner requested for a meeting with the City Mayor, City Legal Office, Business and Licensing Office and the affected barangay for the possible extension of its operations until the end of December of this year.

“The court have given the owners of Red Lion two months to allow them to wind up and close which have already expired last November 10. They again went to us asking for an extension until the end of December 2018 but told them

that I cannot decide on that because the order came from the courts. And during the two month winding up period, they should have operated as a reassurance and not as a bar,” Mayor Mauricio Domogan said.

During the meeting with the mayor and city officials, Red Lion owner Tony Perlas denied their operations to be a bar during the two months winding up period but was operating as a restaurant which was countered by barangay officials who conducted a monitoring of the establishment.

Domogan advised the owners to go back to the court and give their petition for any extension since the initial order came from the courts.

“The City Legal Office will tell the court on what the opposition of the city is specifically coming from the affected barangays and let us see if the courts will grant their petition, then, we will follow whatever the courts will say,” Domogan stated.

The bar was allegedly operating 24 hours during the two month period which was a clear violation of the city’s existing ordinance.

Domogan have also signed other closure orders against enterthe tainment establishment who have continued to violate existing ordinances of the city and who have operated without the necessary permits.

“I have signed closure orders of entertainment establishments in the city who are operating without any business permits. Actually one of the establishment which is subject to closure operating as a bar was caught in a buy bust operation wherein the waitress and the cashier were pushing illegal drugs which is why we will ask them why we should not close their establishment,” Domogan added.
