Triple yields of training on action research for teachers in Tinoc district

- Gabriel Diplat

WITH reference to the Research Agenda of the Cordillera Administrative Region (DO 39, s. 2016), Schools Division Office-Ifugao is one of the beneficiaries of the fund through the Basic Education Research Fund (BERF).

Last November 13, 2017, there were two schools heads of Tinoc District who availed of the BERF, namely: Mrs. Beatriz M. Pullig, Head Teacher III of Danggo ES and Mr. Gabriel K. Diplat, Teacher InCharge of Cocoy (Cudiaman) Elementary School with fund allotment of Php 51,000 and (Php 39,000 respectively.

With the first taste of the goodness of BERF in Tinoc District, the researchers continue to encourage more teachers to join in research work.

Training Cum-Production was used to ensure outputs on Action Researches of teachers. The first beneficiaries of this training cum production was Danggo Elementary School with the initiative of their school head Mrs. Beatriz M. Pullig. Teachers who had Action Research Proposals are shown on Table 1.

The triple impacts of the training cum production on action research are the following:

1. 100% promotion rate – this is because the problems in the classrooms are being addressed and the teacher becomes a problem solver in the classroom, hence, higher learning outcome is evident.

2. Teachers’ Pertinent Document for Promotion – Most of the teachers who joined the AR training Cum Production are new teachers so they desire for promotions.

3. Acquire Fund from BERF – if the research qualifies to the guidelines of the Basic Education Research Fund (BERF), the research could receive financial assistance in conducting the study, thus, an additional income for the teacherresearcher.

The arrangement of the Division Research and Evaluation Team helps in minimizing duplication of research in the district. As such, the teachers could conduct action research for the class handled (2 grades/sections is acceptable) while the school heads can conduct basic research in school and/or district level.
