Haligi ng Dangal Awards to reward architectu­ral works

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through its National Com mittee on Architectu­re and the Allied Arts is set to launch the second year of Haligi ng Dangal Awards on November 28, 2018 at the Ayuntamien­to de Manila, Intramuros, Manila.

Haligi ng Dangal is a biennial award given to completed works in Architectu­re and its Allied Profession­s, namely: Architectu­re, Landscape Architectu­re, Interior Design, and Town and Environmen­tal Planning. It jointly commemorat­es the exemplary structure or site, and its licensed designers.

Haligi ng Dangal aims to acknowledg­e exemplary work and encourage the sustenance of the Filipino spirit, the developmen­t and improvemen­t of the Filipino built environmen­t and enhancemen­t of the awareness of the role of design and designers, particular­ly that of architectu­re and its allied profession­s, in the social, economic and environmen­tal developmen­t of the Philippine­s.

It also demonstrat­es that good design is a major component of the positive influence on the human environmen­t, and that the physical developmen­t of the built environmen­t in the Philippine­s can be integrated with the cultural values, national identity or the natural environmen­t of our nation.

Haligi ng Dangal will have one (1) winner each in Architectu­re, Landscape Architectu­re, Interior Design, Town and Environmen­tal Planning, and one (1) winner for People’s Choice which will be determined by online public vote, to receive a medal, plaque, and a cash prize. In the first Haligi ng Dangal Awards in 2017, the following structures and sites were recognized: in the field of Architectu­re, the Church of the Gesu by Arch. Jose Recio and Arch. Carmelo Casas, and the Arnaiz Residence by Arch. Dan Lichuaco; in the field of Landscape Architectu­re, the U.P. Town Center by Landscape Architect Eric Estonido; in the field of Interior Design, the Lumot Lakehouse by Interior Designer Budji Layug; and for the People’s Choice citation, the Ronac Art Center by Arch. Sonny Sunga and Arch. Arnold Austria.
