A LAW granting the opportunity for homemakers to engage in livelihood projects by putting up programs for training on various crafts and trades has been proposed.

Crafted by Councilor Leandro Yangot and passed on first reading this week, the amount P300,000 is appropriated from the general fund of the city under the Social Services Department if approved into law.

“We have many homemakers who tend to the day to day chores and concerns of the family home. They play a vital role in the attainment of stability in the family… and can can contribute in the attainment of selfreliance if they are engaged in gainful livelihood projects such as recycled-paper handicrafts, food preserve, candy or ice creammaking, wall décor

making, weaving, lantern making, painting, and other similar trades and crafts using indigenous materials. Furthermore, this is to highlight the unique crafts and folk arts of Baguio City, the firstever UNESCO creative city in the Philippines,” Yangot said.

The program will be implemented through the conduct of various forms of trainings and seminars on many gainful livelihood projects for several livelihood crafts and trades which include recycled-paper handicrafts, food preserve, candy or ice cream-making, wall décor making, weaving, lantern making, painting, and other similar trades and crafts using indigenous materials. The training will also include topics on effective productive and marketing strategies for the products thereof.

Lead implementing agency for this undertaking is the City Social Services and Development Office (CSWADO) and will be responsible for the necessary syllabus and learning materials and requirements, training staff and personnel necessary for the effective implementation of the project in close coordination with other related departments.

If the proposal is approved, trainors may be hired by the CSWADO for the implementation of a particular craft or trade on a per-project or job-order basis.
