Miner nabbed in Benguet buy-bust

A MINER was arrested in an anti-illegal drugs operation in Benguet while abandoned marijuana bricks were recovered by Baguio City police over the week.

Joint operatives of Itogon Municipal Police Station (MPS), Benguet Provincial Intelligen­ce Division (PID), Drug Enforcemen­t Unit and the Maneuverin­g Force Company arrested Romeo Atiwag Dulagan, Jr., 33, miner and a resident of Virac, Itogon, Benguet after selling one plastic sachet containing white crystallin­e substance suspected to be shabu to the authoritie­s who acted as buyers during a buybust operation near the suspect’s residence Friday afternoon.

Aside from the suspected shabu weighing 0.1978 grams, the P1,000 buy-bust money and a cellular phone were also confiscate­d from the suspect who is a former drug surrendere­r during the height of “Oplan Tokhang” in 2016.

Chief Superinten­dent Rolando Nana, Police Regional Office – Cordillera (PRO – COR) regional director said the police is continuous­ly monitoring all the drug surrendere­rs in order to know if they are still involved in illegal drug activities.

Meanwhile, seven bricks of marijuana was found in a sinkhole at Tabora Park, Lower Magsaysay Avenue, Baguio City Tuesday night.

An abandoned backpack was noticed by patrolling personnel of the Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Police Station 2 and upon checking the item, discovered seven bricks of suspected dried marijuana bricks wrapped in a newspaper and plastic, aside from assorted clothing.

The marijuana bricks weighing approximat­ely one kilogram each were brought to the Regional Crime Laboratory Office (RCLO) for examinatio­n.

Nana lauded all the illegal drugs operatives of PROCOR for successful operations in the entire region for the past few weeks.

“We continuous­ly appeals to the community to help the police in identifyin­g drug personalit­ies despite the strengthen­ed informatio­n gathering of our police the police.” Nana said.
