Former UC athletic director named UAAP volleyball commish
A LONG-time international referee will oversee the entire University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) volleyball tournaments.
Yul Benosa, who was the former athletic director of the University of the Cordilleras, will take charge as the commissioner of both the men's and the women's volleyball matches.
Benosa was a champion athlete in his own right, being a former member of the University of Santo Tomas men's volleyball team who helped bring three UAAP titles to his squad.
He also steered the UC Lady Jaguars to six straight championships in the Baguio – Benguet Educational Athletic League.
Benosa also got national team callups in the youth and senior levels during the early 90's before jumping to coaching and eventually officiating.
An international referee, who officiated the Asian Men's Club Championship in 2014 in the Philippines and the ASEAN University Games two years after in Singapore, he has been the chief referee of the UAAP from 20082018 before accepting the new role as commissioner.
Leading the way in the tournament, however, is nothing new to him as he has been the assistant tournament director of the Palarong Pambansa volleyball tourneys since 2012.
The UAAP opened its men's and women's volleyball tournaments on February 16 at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan City.
