Joint school-based BSP-GSP training thru camping conducted
THE JUNIOR Boy and Girl Scouts of the Philippines, KAB and Star Scouts of Sapid Elementary School, Mankayan had an opportunity of having a school-based camping with the theme, Leadership begins with Attitude, coupled with various trainings at the school’s covered court last February 15-16.
The activity aimed to develop the God-given skills of these children while they are still young, to prepare them in the forthcoming Provincial Jamboree to be held in the district’s vicinity just the same, and to let them appreciate the practical way of living and the beauty of the environment where they are living in.
Prior to the conduct of the activity proper, the scouts were grouped accordingly. The group of the junior BSP was divided into four patrols namely: Alpha, Knight, Panther and Titan; KAB Scouts, into two patrols namely Pulawan at Bughawan; and for the junior GSP and Star Scouts, they were divided into two, namely Patrol Rose and Patrol Sampaguita.
The opening program started at 7:00 in the evening of February 15 followed by the BSP Investiture Ceremony conducted by Scouter Manuel Dagiw-a and Scouter Rex Mabiasen, both Senior Outfit Advisers and District Coordinators with Judy Lisayen, Scout Crew Leader of Lepanto National High School (LNHS) and Avery Keith B. Malingan, Junior Scout Leader of Sapid Elementary School.
After the ceremony, BSP laws and promises were discussed by Lisayen which was simultaneously done with the GSP indoor activities tackled by Tita Dolores Paplonot, GSP Troop Leader, which included the lecture on Girl Scout Promises and Laws.
Tita Jovelyn Cayapa, Star Scouts Troop Leader, also demonstrated the making of set-upon out of sacks and yarn where pupils were trained how to sew using blanket stitches.
To break the monotony, GSP songs were sang led by Tita Rosalinda Sab-it, GSP adviser.
On the second day, a community service was done where both Junior and Star Scouts went around the nearby sitios for a general cleaning specifically picking up of scattered candy wrappers and cellophanes, papers, bottles, cans and plastics by which these were segregated accordingly.
This was followed by a pot making activity out of cement using old towels and plastic containers as molders demonstrated by Tita Jovelyn and Tita Dolor to the GSP group with some interested parents. Making of setupon was continued while waiting for the pots to dry up under the heat of the sun.
Meanwhile, the Junior BSP and KAB scouts had their outdoor activities at Golf Course. The Senior Scouts of LNHS who were tapped by BS Leader Jane Miing and Kawan Leader Lorejoy D. Tepeg, demonstrated and discussed the different basic skills. Judy Lisayen demonstrated on Fire Building, Jayson Delos Reyes on basic knots and their uses, Joseph Consolacion on Scout Formations, and Jason Longatan on Whistle Signalling.
First aid was also discussed and executed before the scouts.
The campfire ceremony concluded the two-day activity with campfire songs, yell, call and various presentations from each patrol.
The camping was successfully done with the assistance of colleagues in school headed by Mrs. Delia Bandao and with the cooperation of barangay officials and tanods headed by Barangay Chairman Dennis Mayam-es. Above all, with the guidance of the Almighty.
